History
From Multizone Roots to Today's PMZ3
A family-owned shop that grew with the industry, not away from it.
From the late 1960s to the early 80s, hot-deck cold-deck multizone units were the system of choice for most low-rise commercial and institutional buildings. When energy costs escalated in the late 70s and early 80s, traditional multizone systems became obsolete due to the high cost of mixing hot and cold air at once.
In 1986 Dick Peitz conceived an idea to replace worn-out multizone units with multiple, efficient, independently controlled systems in a customized rooftop penthouse. The first unit was field-assembled on a school roof in West Bend, WI in 1988.
In 1999 Dick and his son Bill opened Custom Mechanical Equipment. Erik Peitz, the current owner, grew with the company. In 2003 CME moved to Ponca City, OK, more than tripling manufacturing space and expanding into power distribution, battery storage, and custom fabrication.
